The easiest place to start

Cambodian oud is sweet where most oud is austere. Caramel and warm vanilla at the opening, honey and soft spice underneath. It is the origin that most often surprises people who were expecting something medicinal.

Known locally as Kratie oud. Ours is grown, not taken from wild forest — the trees are planted and tended, wounded deliberately, then left for years while the resin forms. No wound, no agarwood; it is the tree's own defence, and nothing else produces it.

What it smells like

  • Opening: sweet caramel, warm vanilla, light fruit
  • Middle: honey wood, soft spice, gentle floral
  • Base: creamy resin, warm amber, smooth musk

Sweet does not mean simple. It still opens sharper than a synthetic fragrance would, and it still needs an hour to show you what it is.

How to wear it

  • One touch on the wrist, a light dab at the collar. That is a full day.
  • Give it ten to fifteen minutes before you judge it. The opening is not the scent.
  • It works in daytime as easily as evening, which is unusual for oud.
  • Expect eight to ten hours on skin.

How it compares

Of the seven, this is the one we would put in your hand first. Sweeter than Thai, which is smoother and quieter. Nothing like Indonesian, which is dark and heavy. If you have never worn real oud, start here or with the Discovery Set.

What you are buying

100% agarwood oil. No synthetics, no alcohol, no dilution. Nothing added and nothing taken away.

We buy directly from the small distillers who make these oils, in the regions where the agarwood grows. It is slower than going through a broker, and it means more of what you pay reaches the people who did the work.

Each oil is rested until it has matured, then bottled in London and packed for delivery worldwide.

New to oud? Start with the Discovery Set — four origins, 1ml of each, Cambodian among them.

Frequently asked questions

What does Cambodian oud oil smell like?

Sweet caramel and warm vanilla at the opening, then honey wood and soft spice, settling into creamy resin and warm amber. The sweetest of the seven.

How long does it last on skin?

Eight to ten hours. Apply to moisturised pulse points and give it ten to fifteen minutes to develop.

Is Cambodian oud good for beginners?

Yes. It is the sweetest and least confronting of the seven, and the one we most often recommend for a first bottle.

Can I wear it every day?

Yes. It is light enough for daytime and warm enough for evening, which is why it is the most versatile oil we carry.

Is the agarwood wild or grown?

Grown. The trees are planted and tended, then wounded deliberately. None of our oud is taken from wild forest.

Do you ship worldwide?

Yes, with free UK delivery. See the full collection.

A RARE UNFORGETTABLE FRAGRANCE

They are extracted from Agarwood resins in a process that it withholds unique fragrances enlightening one's mood and soul.

What pure actually means

Every oil we sell is 100% agarwood. No synthetics, no alcohol, nothing added to soften it. We buy directly from the small distillers who make these oils, in the regions where the trees are grown and tended, and each one is rested until it has matured before we bottle it in London. It is a slower way of working than going through a broker, and it is the only way we can tell you honestly what is in the bottle.

Seven origins, one tree

Every oil in our range comes from the same tree, Aquilaria. Soil, climate and time do the rest, and the difference between regions is not subtle. Cambodian is sweet and almost caramel. Indian is earthy and herbal. Laos is light and floral. Indonesian is dark and dense. Most people find one they return to and stop looking, and which one that is has very little to do with price.
